Erinnerungen aufschlagen

When looking at other peoples photo albums, what do we see? By turning the pages, we follow the rhythm of memory: fragmentary, repetitive, shaped by associations and empty spaces. People and places we dont know often seem familiar. The exhibition Unfolding Memories and the accompanying catalogue explore this resonance between the foreign and the familiar, the past and the present, memory and photography. Here, historical photo albums from the Draiflessen Collection Archive engage in dialogue with works by contemporary artists, forming connections across different time periods. The artworks reveal the creative nature of the actions inherent in the photo albums, shaped by the desire to remember, to tell stories, but also to forget.
